Iceland is a truly amazing country of stunning and dramatic scenery and we are delighted to offer you a choice of magical locations suitable for your wedding. Quaint village chapels, beautiful churches or even an historic turf chapel in the city of Reykjavik are available, or if you would prefer to marry outdoors you can choose almost any location throughout the country. Consider the top of a glacier, within a national park, beside a waterfall or even at the Blue Lagoon! The possibilities are endless.
Some of the more popular churches in Reykjavik and the surrounding area include: Domkirkjan, the parliament church; the original turf church at the Aerbaer Museum; the colourful wooden chapel in Thingvellir National Park and Videyjarkirkja, a small unpopulated island off Reykjavik that has a pretty chapel and spectacular vi ews of the city and mountains. This island can only be reached by boat. Click here for more details...
Every November in the heart of Swedish Lapland, north of the Arctic Circle, ice builders and artists begin work creating the largest igloo in the world – the famous Ice Hotel. This amazing piece of architecture is built entirely from blocks of crystal clear ice from the frozen Torne River and melts away every May, completing the cycle.
It is not only the room and walls that are made of ice, but also the breathtaking lobby, the bedroom ‘furniture’, the altar and pews in the chapel and the bar and chairs in the Absolut bar. Even the glasses are made entirely of ice!
For the ultimate unusual wedding why not take or renew your vows in the romantic setting of the Ice Chapel? Alternatively, a civil ceremony can be arranged in the Ice Hotel. Click here for more details...

We are travel specialists but our close working relationship with the wedding consultants at the individual venues, added to our experience gained in many years of preparing wedding itineraries, means that you are in safe and caring hands, as some highly satisfied clients will testify:
“ We had our concerns about a wedding in such an unusual place but DTW worked with the Icehotel and it all went to plan, better than we had anticipated. We arrived in Kiruna a couple of days before our wedding to sort out all the official things with paperwork – a taxi picked us up, took us into town and returned us to the Icehotel afterwards so it couldn’t have been simpler.
Our Wedding Breakfast in the restaurant was superb and they catered for all of our 23-strong party without a hitch. As it was such a special place, we wanted to make sure the wedding photos were the best we could get – we booked an official photographer and it was well worth it – our favourite picture is the silhouette shown above. Without doubt, we would recommend getting married in an Ice Chapel and Discover the World even managed to get it to snow for the first time during our trip, as we walked from the ceremony. Well, maybe they didn’t arrange that bit!”

Many people who wish to marry abroad have contemplated a sunshine wedding in the Caribbean but often find venues are lacking something unique. If you are unsure about heading north for your nuptuals, read what one of our many happy couples had to say about their experience and think again!
Over the years we have put together wedding and honeymoon packages for numerous couples. With the help of Discover the World staff and the wedding coordinator at the ICEHOTEL, plans for Zoë Smith’s ideal wedding were developed and realised, when she married her fiancé Tristan Baldwinson in December 2006. Images have been reproduced here with kind permission from Mr & Mrs Baldwinson-Smith. We interviewed Zoë recently to find out what made her wedding so special…

Did your wedding day live up to your expectations?
Absolutely – we wanted something different, while still having the traditional ceremony with close family and friends. The day was absolutely fantastic, a truly magical experience. The setting was spectacular, and the ICEHOTEL was stunning - exceeding all our expectations - we wouldn't have wanted to change a thing.

Would you recommend the ICEHOTEL® as a wedding venue?
If you are looking to have a traditional wedding, in a stunning winter wonderland setting, in your own chapel made of ice, then this is definitely the destination for you. I couldn't recommend it more highly.

What was the best thing about getting married in Sweden?
It’s not a million miles away from the UK, so doesn’t require lengthy flights for the people that are important to you. The traditional nature of the ceremony also allows you to wear the fairy-tale wedding dress you dreamed about, with the possibility to arrive on a sledge pulled by a reindeer! There really is something special and romantic about the crisp cold winter air, being surrounded by a snow dusted landscape in the middle of nowhere with the person you love.

How well do you feel DTW organised your wedding?
Everything was taken care of and we were able to talk through all aspects with friendly, helpful staff. So I would 100% recommend Discover the World to someone else thinking of visiting or getting married in Scandinavia.
