This is literally, the classic round Iceland holiday showcasing the highlights of this outstanding destination, while also allowing time to explore off the beaten track. As each day unfolds, experience ever-changing landscapes, learn about the island’s culture, history and many curiosities which make the place and its people so endearing. |
Visit five of Iceland’s most impressive waterfalls – the ‘Golden Falls’ of Gullfoss; thunderous Dettifoss, Europe’s most powerful; charming Hraunfossar the ‘Lava Falls’; Skogafoss, which often has a rainbow in its spray and last but not least, Seljalandsfoss – for the more surefooted, a walk behind this is quite amazing. Then there is the volcanic wonderland of Lake Myvatn in the north, where you can stroll among majestic lava pillars, craters, bubbling mud pools and steam vents as well as see abundant birdlife. In the south, see a dozen or more glaciers spilling off the mighty icecaps and gaze at the splendour of aquamarine icebergs adrift in the Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon. The east of the island brings further surprises, tranquil fjords, towering glaciated mountains and delightful fishing villages while in the west, explore a stunning coast of basalt cliffs at the foot of an ancient snow-capped volcano. And along the way, dip into the island’s fascinating Saga sites. Each day consists of coach travel, with stops and short walks to places of interest.
