Traditional Lapland

Introduction
An enchanting short break to northern Sweden with Christmas and New Year departures too. Escape completely from the hustle and bustle of every day life and immerse yourself in a true winter wilderness. A very warm welcome awaits you in this family-run secluded ‘village’, ideal for families and romantics alike.

A mere 200km north of the Arctic Circle – with a backdrop of forested wilderness, is the tiny settlement of Lainio, the ideal place for a complete winter getaway. The dark polar sky here twinkles with stars, often with the northern lights illuminating the miles upon miles of untouched snow-covered scenery, a sight that is simply enchanting. Something else unforgettable is the silence, occasionally broken by the sound of huskies and people having a thoroughly good time!

There really is very little here apart from the seven guest cabins dotted around the familyrun ‘village’, so don’t expect much in the way of night life. However in the main cottage, Marttigarden, staff prepare and serve hearty Sami meals and the roaring log fire helps to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere – a homely place to relax after a day out in the snow. Guests sit and exchange stories of their adventures, before retiring to their comfortable beds. Due to the remote location of Lainio Vildmark this trip is offered on a full board basis. As there are so few cabins and this is a hugely popular destination, the term ‘book early to avoid disappointment’ applies.

The five standard cabins are named after the wild animals of Lapland: Bear; Wolf; Puma; Wolverine and Marten. The other two cabins Eagle and Moose are larger with their own saunas - further details of the cabins can be found on accommodation page.

During your stay at Lainio Vildmark, embark on a snowmobile safari through the pure white countryside and learn about the rich Sami culture of the region, whilst enjoying a customary campfire lunch. A trip to Lapland wouldn’t be complete without a ride on a husky sledge and you may even get the opportunity to ‘mush’ the dogs yourself – suitably guided by experts of course.

You will also have time to try kick-sledges, an easy mode of transport that you’ll see used everywhere (the kids will love them!) and for the many available activities and excursions, see our excursions page. All of the activities can be followed by a rejuvenating trip to the sauna.

Lainio Vildmark is another of our destinations where you can celebrate the festive season, which really does sparkle here. Enjoy a traditional Swedish Christmas or New Year with included festive activities, certain to be a time you’ll cherish forever.

On the final day of your holiday as you return to the airport, visit the ICEHOTEL, a tour of which is included. Marvel at the themed suites, admire the entrance hall and impressive ICEBAR and perhaps have a vodka cocktail before you leave? Eventually the spring sun will melt this amazing place back into the Torne River – recycling in the extreme!

This is a magical all-inclusive trip - great atmosphere, warm and welcoming and VERY popular. Limited availability so book early!

Please note Lainio Vildmark should not be confused with our Magic of Lapland trip based at the Lainio Snow Village, Finnish Lapland (click here for details), which offers a night in an ice room combined with a stay in a hotel or in a luxury tepee.
