This quaint boutique hotel is situated by the magnificent falls of the same name – mystical Skogafoss is an immediately recognisable sight, seen on many an Icelandic postcard and book cover. It has great access to a number of interesting places to visit, either inland or along the south coast.

Being in such an idyllic location and having just 12 rooms, each with private facilities, helps the hotel generate an intimate atmosphere much loved by writers, artists and creative types – also a perfect romantic retreat for couples.

This is the only hotel of real standard operating in the interior of the Icelandic Highlands. Although the long, low, single storey collection of buildings looks rather plain on the outside, inside, a contemporary Scandinavian décor makes guests feel relaxed and at home. The hotel has 16 rooms, 4 family apartments, 2 family suites and 2 master suites, all smartly furnished.

A gourmet restaurant with an à la carte menu is provided on site, with mountain lamb a speciality. There are outdoor hot tubs, a sauna and solarium and a helicopter pad! But if you don’t have a helicopter there is parking for your four-wheel drive!

This luxury ‘ranch-like’ hotel is about 2 hours drive southeast of Reykjavik and is perfectly situated for visiting the wealth of natural wonders on its doorstep. The picturesque surroundings offer views of the recently active Hekla volcano to the north, a range of mountains and glaciers to the northeast & east and, on a clear day, the Westman Islands to the south. With such superb uninterrupted 360 degree skies for miles around, it isn’t surprising that the Ranga is blessed with some truly amazing displays of the northern lights during the months of September to March.

The hotel, near the banks of the East Ranga River, has 38 well appointed rooms, including a Royal Suite, located in two single storey wings either side of the public area. The en suite bedrooms are very tastefully decorated with either twin or double bed, TV, mini-bar and all bathrooms have a bathtub and shower. The deluxe rooms have a sofa, kingsize bed and a Jacuzzi bath. For the 2008 season, 11 new rooms and 3 master suites will be added along with a new dining room, lounge/bar and kitchen as well as additional conference facilities and a luxury spa, in addition to the current outdoor hot tubs.

The hotel already has a bar and comfortable lounge and the restaurant is noted for its extensive wine list and first class international gourmet cuisine, expertly prepared and presented by top chefs. A superb bonus on this trip - the 4 nights at the Ranga are on a full board basis (breakfast, packed lunch and 3-course dinner).
