Arctic Edge

The first and final nights of the itinerary are spent in Reykjavik allowing you to sample the delights of the vibrant capital and its famous nightlife. Or you could just sample one of the many excellent quality restaurants on offer – you’ll be spoilt for choice!

The 4 star ‘ranch-like’ Hotel Ranga, is home for 4 nights. It is an hour’s drive southeast of Reykjavik and is perfectly situated for visiting the array of natural wonders virtually on its doorstep. The picturesque surroundings offer views of the recently active Hekla volcano to the north, a range of mountains and glaciers to the northeast and east and, on a clear day, the Westman Islands to the south. With such superb uninterrupted 360° skies for miles around, it isn’t surprising that the Ranga is blessed with some truly amazing displays of the northern lights during the months of September to March as well as during the height of the summer, a ‘golden light’ is often cast over the entire area by the midnight sun.

The hotel, near the banks of the East Ranga River famous for its salmon fishing, has 52 well-appointed rooms including 8 suites located in two single storey wings either side of the public area. The en suite bedrooms are very tastefully decorated and include a TV, mini-bar and seating area plus all bathrooms (excluding 3 handicap adjusted rooms) have both a bathtub and shower. The hotel also has several outdoor hot tubs with naturally heated water.

The hotel has a bar, 2 meeting rooms and a comfortable lounge. The riverside restaurant is noted for its extensive wine list and first class international gourmet cuisine, expertly prepared and presented by top chefs.
