| OUTLINE ITINERARY (Option A) |
| Day 1: |
fly from the UK to Keflavik, transfer to Reykjavik and overnight in Hotel Baron or Lind near the city centre. |
| Day 2: |
Collect your vehicle and drive to Thingvellir
National Park where the ancient Viking assembly first held counsel in
900AD. Visit Geysir, the famous geothermal area with its surreal bubbling
mud pools and spouting geysers – there is also an interesting exhibition
of this geothermal wonder in the Visitor Centre. The next stop on the
‘Golden Circle’ route is appropriately the ‘golden’
waterfall – Gullfoss, which cascades over two tiers before disappearing
into an impressive gorge. Overnight at Fosshotel Hella (Sept only; Fosshotel
Hengill (July & August). |
| Day 3: |
Continue on the main Ring Road as it heads east, admiring the glaciers as they spill out over the land between rugged mountain peaks. Walk behind beautiful Seljalandsfoss, then brave the spray and step up close to mighty Skogafoss, the noise from this thundering 62m high waterfall is certainly to be remembered, a visit to the Skogar Museum is also recommended. Hike in the Skaftafell National Park Take and discover the hidden waterfall, Svartifoss, surrounded by basalt colums. Overnight at Fosshotel Skaftafell. |
| Day 4: |
head further east to Jokulsarlon, a large glacial lagoon dotted with icebergs of all shapes and sizes. Perhaps take an optional trip amongst them in an amphibious craft where photo opportunites will be incredible. Walk along the edge of the lagoon to see more of the ice formations and hopefully spot some visiting seals. Continue along Road 1 and check in at the charming Hotel Vatnajokull for 2 nights. |
| Day 5: |
hike in the amazing, isolated glacier valley of Lonsoraefi and discover spectacular fjord scenery. Please note that to reach the end of this valley, you will need a high clearance 4WD vehicle. |
| Day 6: |
enjoy a contrast today – a snowmobiling trip on top of the glacier is thrilling and highly recommended - details of this optional activity may be found at reception. The beautifully situated and bustling fishing town of Hofn is worth visiting and it a great place for lunch or an afternoon stroll. It also has a wonderful Glacier Exhibition where you can learn about this natural wonder and then from the outdoor viewing platform, take your camera and capture breathtaking views of the glacier. |
| Day 7: |
time to head west back to Reykjavik with plenty of possibilities to stop en route. At the little coastal town of Vik, with its quaint hilltop church, step out onto a black sand beach and watch the waves roll in. Explore the dramatic cliffs at Dyrholaey with amazing views over the sea and surrounding countryside. If time allows make a detour through the dramatic lavascapes of the Reykjanes Peninsula to see more of the rugged coastline and perhaps take a dip in the world-famous Blue Lagoon. Head into Reykjavik and overnight at Hotel Baron or Lind. |
| Day 8: |
transfer to the airport after breakfast and catch the flight home to the UK. |

| Day 1: |
fly UK to Keflavik and overnight in Reykjavik. |
| Day 2: |
drive to Hotel Vatnajokull and check in for 2 nights. |
| Day 3: |
explore the area, perhaps visiting Lonsoraefi or take an optional snowmobile safari and visit Hofn. |
| Day 4&5: |
visit Jokulsarlon then check in at Hotel Skaftafell for 2 nights. |
| Day 6: |
explore the Skaftafell/south coast area. |
| Day 7: |
head back to Reykjavik via the ‘Golden Circle’ route. |
| Day 8: |
enjoy a dip in the Blue Lagoon (optional) then take an evening flight home. |
