Itinerary

| Day 1: |
fly from the UK to Keflavik, collect rental vehicle and head off to the greenhouse village of Hveragerdi and check in at the Frost and Fire guesthouse for a two night stay. Rest of the time to explore the area. |
| Day 2: |
free to explore at your leisure. |
| Day 3: |
continue around the south coast, stopping no doubt many times to admire the views, including Seljalandsfoss, one of Iceland’s best-known waterfalls and the Myrdalsjokull icecap, where an optional snowmobile trip will cost approximately £87. You can also visit the fascinating folk museum and another impressive waterfall, 60 m Skogafoss. Explore the Reynisfjara pebble beach with caves and basalt formations. Take a look at the bird cliffs at Dyrholaey and walk along its black sand beach (closed until 25th June so as not to disturb nesting birds). Continue west for a two night stay at the Frost and Fire guesthouse in Hof (room with basin). |
| Day 4: |
there is much to do in the Hof area, such as walking in Skaftafell National Park, discovering the Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon or taking an optional snowmobile trip on Europe’s largest glacier, Vatnajokull. |
| Day 5: |
further east and located in the delightful fishing village of Djupivogur is Hotel Framtid, built in the style of a large log cabin. One night is spent here. |
| Day 6: |
spend the day enjoying the fjords of the east coast. In the village of Seydisfjordur, with its picturesque timber buildings, art centre and selection of museums, overnight at Hotel Aldan. |
| Day 7-9: |
continue to Myvatn and spend three nights at the lovely Hotel Reykjahlid close to the northern shores of the lake. There is much to see and do in this volcanic region. |
| Day 10: |
stay overnight at Guesthouse Gauksmyri, which provides another opportunity to experience the pure-bred Icelandic horse thanks to its Horse Centre. |
| Day 11: |
drive along the spectacular Strandir coast and overnight at Hotel Laugarholl with its great outdoor geothermal pool. |
| Day 12: |
onwards to Hotel Isafjordur located at the main town of the region, not surprisingly also called Isafjordur. |
| Day 13: |
travel along the west coast of the fjords and take a ferry across Breidarfjordur Bay to the beautiful island of Flatey, where you will overnight. |
| Day 14: |
continue by ferry to the dramatic Snaefellsnes Peninsula and stay two nights at wonderful Hotel Hellnar. |
| Day 15: |
time to explore the national park of Snaefellsnes, the glacier or perhaps take a whale watching trip from Olafsvik. |
| Day 16: |
spend the final overnight at the Northern Lights Hotel at the Blue Lagoon, where there will be time to have a dip in the world famous spa (small additional charge). |
| Day 17: |
drop off the rental vehicle at the airport and catch the flight home to the UK. |
