| Day 1: |
fly from the UK to Keflavik and transfer to Reykjavik for a two night stay at Hotel
Cabin.

| Day 2: |
collect your vehicle and drive to Thingvellir National Park (Almannagja, Hofdi), where the ancient parliament was founded in 930 AD. Onwards over the Lyngdalsheidi mountain pass for a first taste of unpaved roads and a visit to Geysir and Gullfoss, completing the trio of sights associated with the famed ‘golden circle’ route. Overnight at Hotel Ranga.

| Day 3: |
drive east visiting the magnificent falls of Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss and perhaps take an optional snowmobiling trip on Myrdalsjokull (approx. £87) before heading to the highlands. Overnight at Hotel Highland. Day 4 today is the first real highland adventure: drive on the Sprengisandur mountain road to the north of Iceland. Magnificent views of Hofsjokull and Vatnajokull glaciers. Spend three nights at Hotel Reynihlid overlooking Lake Myvatn.

| Day 4: |

| Day 5: |
explore the marvels of the Myvatn region and perhaps, take an optional whale watching trip from nearby Husavik.
|
| Day 6: |
drive to the Jokulsa Canyon National Park, take a marvellous hike to ‘Echo Rocks’ and see Dettifoss.

| Day 7: |
head south to the wilds to Mt. Askja. Hike to the lake-filled Viti crater, where it is possible to bathe in the naturally warm water. Then drive east and check in at Hotel Herad in Egilsstadir for two nights.

| Day 8: |
travel to Borgarfjordur Eystri, an idyllic village in the Eastern Fjord region.
|
| Day 9: |
venture into the eastern highlands, driving along Lake Logurinn to Mt. Snaefell at the northeast corner of Vatnajokull glacier. Good chance of spotting reindeer.

| Day 10: |
continue south and visit the glacial lagoon Jokulsarlon and perhaps take an optional boat trip among the icebergs or pop across the road and get close to them, washed up along the shore of the black sand beach. Overnight at Hotel Skaftafell

| Day 11: |
explore Skaftafell and hike to Svartifoss, a stunning waterfall surrounded by basalt columns. Continue to the Kirkjubaejarklaustur area and spend two nights at Hotel Klaustur.

| Day 12: |
take an excursion along another mountain track to Laki, a series of craters which produced an enormous lava flow in 1783.
|
| Day 13: |
drive to Eldgja Gorge, for a hike to the waterfall Ofaerufoss. Then head to colourful Landmannalaugar, with its many hot springs, a favourite bathing spot. Overnight at Hotel Selfoss.

| Day 14: |
travel to Thorsmork nature reserve, an oasis of green set amongst glaciers on three sides – excellent walking country. Late afternoon arrival in the capital, drop off rental vehicle and overnight at Hotel Cabin.

| Day 15: |
transfer to Keflavik airport for the return flight to the UK.
