Hotel Jeris takes its name from the beautiful lake by which it is located in Muonio, a picturesque fell region close to the Pallas-Ounastunturi National Park, north western Finland.
The welcoming country hotel is small but very well appointed. The 26 hotel rooms have private facilities including a handy drying cabinet – perfect for keeping your socks toasty! The wooden cabins, of which there are two types, are liberally scattered amongst the trees:
Jeris Lakeside these are located closest to the hotel (50-200m) and sleep 2 to 4 persons. They have one bedroom and a sofa bed in the lounge area, an open fireplace, kitchenette, private facilities (shower and WC), TV and clothes drying cupboard.
Jeris Village these sleep 4 to 7 persons (in two different styles of cabin) and are ideal for families or groups of friends. They are 300- 550m from the hotel, set amongst wooded grounds. All have private facilities, a lounge/kitchenette area, clothes drying cupboard, open fireplace and TV. The smaller style has just one bedroom, the larger cabins two bedrooms plus in all, there is space for 3 to 4 people in a galleried loft arrangement, sleeping on single mattresses (not suitable for small children as there are open banisters).
Note all cabins have their own private sauna, a habit which can become addictive even on a short break.
Why not try out the Japanese style spa which has high glass walls with lovely views – ideal for night time vigils on the look out for the northern lights. There are two heated indoor pools, electric and smoke saunas and for the brave, a 25m illuminated outdoor pool cut into the lake which is kept ice free throughout the winter. Many people enjoy a healthy swim here before heading off for lunch or dinner in one of the two dining areas, the main restaurant overlooking the forest and frozen lake. Furnished with open fires and a cosy décor, its serves top quality cuisine including an à la carte menu and home made local delicacies. The ‘pub’ offers bar food and light snacks in a more casual setting. This trip is operated on a half board basis of buffet breakfast and evening meal (excluding alcoholic drinks).
With so much pristine countryside to enjoy all around the hotel, many different activities can be arranged at reception for an additional cost. One of the most popular is cross-country skiing and just outside the hotel, is the start of a 1.5km illuminated track and there are plenty of other well-maintained tracks, 250km in total, in the vicinity. But if you wanted to explore your surrounds by other means, snowshoes, kick sleds and walking poles may also be hired from reception. Please visit the optional excursions page for more details.
The snow here is truly amazing and, for children of all ages, making a snow angel or simply building a snowman is guaranteed to put a smile on their face. The toboggan tunnel and complimentary toboggans offer hours of fun for kids of all ages. Take this idyllic short break and we guarantee you’ll want to return.
