| What are the roads like? |
| Iceland’s roads once had the reputation for providing a bone shattering experience. Thankfully, a huge investment in road building and maintenance has paved many main routes and improved minor ones. Main roads are generally kept clear of snow however certain routes are always closed in winter and details of these, and other useful information, is supplied to you before departure. When in Iceland, a local number gives up to the minute information. |

| The Ring Road: |
| The 1450 km (906 mile) circular route is mostly paved except for a few short sections. Many major sights and accommodation options are within easy reach. However, in the winter season, local road and weather conditions should always be checked before venturing out as some sections may be impassable. Certain detours from the ring road to lesser-known places of interest may not be accessible either but local hoteliers and the folks at the Public Roads Administration can put you in the picture. |
