Town of the Icebergs - Ilulissat

Tour Information

West Greenland Climate
West Greenland often benefits from calm, stable weather conditions during the summer months, which can bring surprisingly warm days. Average daytime temperatures range from 8-15°C but can be cooler at night and, with the wind-chill factor, a lot cooler out on a boat. Some rainfall is possible.

About Kangerlussuaq
Wild Life: Kangerlussuaq is the best area in Greenland to spot Arctic wild life - just a few minutes away from the hotel you very often can see reindeer and musk oxen!
The Inland Ice Cap: No other destination in Greenland offers such an easy access to the Ice Cap as Kangerlussuaq by car.
Weather: The location approx. 160km from the coast makes Kangerlussuaq one on the most weather stable destinations in Greenland with plenty of sunshine.

About Ilulissat
Situated above the Arctic Circle, Ilulissat is a modern Greenlandic town surrounded by a glacier and the calving icebergs.
Calving Glaciers & Gigantic Icebergs: Gigantic Icebergs are situated in the fjord right outside the town and are experienced at close range on our Midnight Cruises or during full day excursions where we cruise close to the impressive glacier of Eqip.
Isolated Settlements: On other excursions we sail to small and remote settlements, where we find "the old world" and the traditional Greenlandic hunters.
Helicopter Excursions: Over the UNESCO designated Ilulissat Ice Fjord and its gigantic icebergs to the Ilulissat Glacier or to the Disko Island for a dogsledge ride.

Guides:
This holiday is on an independent basis and is not escorted throughout. However, the Arctic Adventure representatives/guides will be at hand in both Kangerlussuaq and Ilulissat to ensure that everything runs smoothly, offer help and advice and to arrange any optional excursions you may wish to book.

Grading:
This holiday is Grade 1, which means it is suitable for almost everyone. Some excursions involve a little walking, whilst those which include boat travel will involve getting on and off a boat, the ease of which may vary with the tides.
