Itinerary
|
| Day 1: |
fly from UK to Keflavik and transfer to Hotel Cabin for an overnight stay. |
| Day 2: |
collect car and head east over Hellisheidi and past the greenhouse village of Hveragerdi to the Geysir geothermal area to see spouting geysers, including Strokkur which ejects a 30 m jet of water into the air, every few minutes. Visit nearby Gullfoss, the magnificent two-tiered waterfall and historic Skalholt, with its lovely church. Continue past the glaciers to Country Hotel Anna and check in for two nights. Nearby is stunning Skogafoss – at 60 m high, it is one of Iceland’s best-known waterfalls. |
| Day 3: |
drive to the basalt columns and surf pounded beach at Reynishverfi or enjoy great views from the cliffs at Dyrholaey, with its natural rock arch. Weather permitting take a long drive eastwards to Skaftafell National Park, set amidst spectacular glacier tongues. Enjoy the drive and the scenery and possibly take a short walk to Svartifoss or the snout of the glacier before heading back to Skogar. |
| Day 4: |
visit the fascinating Folk Museum at Skogar, then the mystical falls of Seljalandsfoss and peep into the gloomy chasm of Gljufrabui, another nearby waterfall. On your return journey to Reykjavik, stop at the pretty fishing village of Eyrarbakki. Optional visit and bathe in the world-famous Blue Lagoon, before an overnight in Iceland’s capital. |
| Day 5: |
return the rental vehicle in the morning and transfer to Keflavik for the flight back to the UK. |
