Iceland Holiday | Summer | Horse riding holidays |
Sheep Round Up
|
| Introduction |
Experienced Ability |
|
| This tour offers the chance to participate in what has become one of the most celebrated events in the farming calendar. Join local farmers as they embark on the annual ritual of gathering up thousands of sheep from the mountains of South Iceland to be taken down to the fertile pastures for winter grazing. Still performed on horseback in the traditional manner, there is a wonderful sense of camaraderie that surrounds this truly Icelandic event. |
| |
Sturdy and eager, this is one of the most exhilarating ways to experience riding an Icelandic horse and certainly provides a fabulous insight into their role in the rural community. But this holiday is not only about being part of an age old tradition, there is also time to explore some of the natural wonders for which Iceland is so renowned, amongst them the beautiful Gjain Valley, the majestic waterfalls Gullfoss and Hjalparfoss, impressive Geysir hot spring area and Thingvellir National Park.
Three nights of your holiday will be spent at Fossnes Holiday Farm in comfortable rooms with shared facilities. This comfortable accommodation is perfectly situated in rolling farmland near the Thjorsa River and the outdoor hot tub provides an ideal place to relax after each day in the saddle. The first and last nights will be spent in a Reykjavik guesthouse.
